The project required a sensitive response to significant changes in level between the house, the existing outbuilding that would become the pool house, and the pool area on the lowest level. Mature protected trees and conservation constraints surrounding the historic Kentish property were naturally an essential design consideration.
The pool was positioned to avoid impact on tree root systems, and natural stone raised planters were introduced to flank broad Antique Oak Millboard steps linking the levels. The design creates an intuitive flow between the house, lawn, pool house, dining terrace, lounge area and pool. The result is a garden that captures the Mediterranean influence the clients wanted while being entirely sympathetic to its historic setting.
Every design decision balances aesthetics with practicality, from the careful selection of long-lasting materials which would complement and age naturally alongside each other, to proposing and installing a prefabricated swimming pool that significantly reduced construction time, allowing the family to enjoy the garden much sooner.
The result is a timeless, low-maintenance garden that demonstrates how a thoughtful and cohesive design approach can unlock the full potential of even the most complex sites.
